Virtual visit days
If you're a promising applicant based in the UK you're likely to be invited to attend a Mathematics virtual visit day!
Visit days give you a taste of what it's like to be a student at Manchester and allow you to ask any questions you may have about studying here, university life or the city itself. We will be holding our virtual visit days on Wednesdays between November and March. Once we receive your UCAS application and you've been selected to attend a Visit Day, you will be able to view your invitation on UCAS Track.
You should also respond to your invitation on UCAS Track.
We strongly encourage you to attend the visit day. You will receive important information and will spend many of the sessions with academics and student ambassadors, giving you the opportunity to ask questions about their experience of the course and university life. As you are making a decision about where to spend the next three or four years, it is of benefit to you to be as well informed as possible about the course and the University.
Please note, the virtual visit day does not include an interview this academic cycle.
The virtual visit day will be held from 1.30pm - 3:00pm.
There will four short sessions:
- Welcome and introduction by the Admissions Tutor
- Maths talk
- Teaching and Learning in the Maths department
- Q&A with our academics, admissions team and current undergraduate students
We encourage you to ask questions. The panel will be made up of academic members of staff, administration staff and current undergraduate students. They can give direct answers about the University and the course; they can also offer insight into the development of the subject area you are interested in. However, if you would prefer to ask questions in private, you will have the opportunity to do so, at the end of the session via the private chat function.
Please note: although the virtual visit day is scheduled to be 90 minutes, there is a chance it could take longer than expected. If you feel this may be a problem, please let us know.
The visit day will be administered by Zoom. The Zoom link and password will be given to you via UCAS Track. On entering the visit day please switch off your microphone and video. In addition, we would very much like to know who we are talking to so if you are comfortable, please ensure we can see your first name and surname.
We recommend that you download the latest version of Zoom on your computer for optimal performance.
If you are made an offer you will also be invited via email to attend an in-person offer holder day to get a taste of our department and our campus. This will include talks from academics, tours of campus and the facilities you will be using, as well as the chance to talk with staff and students about any aspect of student life at Manchester. If you meet our WP flag criteria, we will be able to offer you a reimbursement of your travel costs to Manchester. We will contact all eligible offer holders to book travel in advance of the offer holder day.
Parents and carers
Parents and carers are welcome to attend the virtual visit days and any additional sessions we may run.
We will also be hosting dedicated sessions for parents / carers and supporters. These sessions will enable parents / carers and supporters to find out more information about what it's like to study at Manchester.
There will be opportunities to ask questions to our staff, academics and current students. We will send further information about this to successful applicants.
