Algebra, logic and number theory
We are engaged in research across diverse and interrelated areas of algebra, logic and number theory.
We have concentrations of expertise across broad areas of fundamental pure research underpinning much of mathematics.
We explore algebra, model theory and number theory in depth as well as the connections between and with other disciplines such as geometry, dynamical systems and topology. We also have expertise in the emerging area of tropical mathematics, which has aspects of algebra and geometry.
Areas of expertise
Algebra is the study of abstract objects arising from across mathematics, unifying apparently distant areas.
Model theory is the study of diverse mathematical structures from the perspective of formal logic.
Number theory is an ancient area of mathematics involving the study of integers, well-known for the simplicity of its statements and beauty of its proofs.
Tropical mathematics is an emerging field of algebra and geometry with applications in many areas.
We welcome applications for PhD study in all areas of algebra, logic and number theory.
