North British Semigroups and Applications Network
NBSAN is a network of researchers in Scotland and Northern England with interests in semigroup theory and its applications. It is funded chiefly by a grant from the London Mathematical Society (with additional contributions from host departments and occasionally from other sources) and holds 2-3 meetings per year in different locations around the region. The main participant universities are East Anglia, Heriot-Watt, Manchester, St Andrews and York, but our activities are open to all interested researchers. Attendance at all meetings is free. We especially welcome graduate students.

Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held in Manchester on Friday 12th July 2019, organised by Marianne Johnson and Mark Kambites. Speakers include James East, Bakh Khoussainov, Finn Smith and Nora Szakacs.
The provisional schedule is as follows:- 12:00 - Early arrivers congregate for lunch in Milk & Honey (in building 32 on the campus map),
- 13:00 - Nora Szakacs - Inverse monoids and immersions of cell complexes
- 14:00 - Finn Smith - Translational hulls of ideals
- 14:30 - Tea & Coffee
- 15:00 - Bakh Khoussainov - Open questions on automatic structures (joint talk with Manchester Pure Mathematics Colloquium)
- 16:00 - Drinks reception (joint with Manchester Pure Mathematics Colloquium)
- 16:30 - James East - Semigroups generated by idempotents and one-sided units
- 17:30 - Close, followed by an early dinner
The meeting will take place in the Alan Turing Building, which is building number 46 on the campus map, and is about 20 minutes walk or bus ride from Piccadilly Station. Talks will be in Frank Adams Room 1, on the first floor next to the atrium bridge coffee area. Some information for visitors to Manchester is available here. There is no need to register in advance to attend the meeting, but please contact Mark Kambites with any queries.
Funds are available to assist with the attendance costs of UK-based graduate students; to apply please contact Mark Kambites with an estimate of your expenses.
