NBSAN is a network of researchers in Scotland and Northern England with interests in semigroup theory and its applications. It is funded by grants from the London Mathematical Society and Edinburgh Mathematical Society, and organises around three meetings per year in different locations around the region. The main participant universities are Heriot-Watt, Manchester, St Andrews and York, but our activities are open to all interested researchers and we especially welcome participation by graduate students.

Next Meeting

The next NBSAN meeting will be held at the University of York on Wednesday 24th November 2010, organised by Victoria Gould. Please note that the schedule has been slightly revised: the current one is as follows:

11:30-12:15 (Roger Kirk Centre)Early arrivers meet for lunch
12:20-12:30 (Langwith L/047)Welcome
12:30-13:15 (Langwith L/047)Alexei Vernitski (Essex) - Graphs to semigroups
13:20-14:10 (Langwith L/N/002)Maria Szendrei (Szeged) - Some results on almost factorisable semigroups
14:15-14:35 (outside L/N/002)Coffee and Tea
14:35-15:25 (Langwith L/N/002)Peter Jones (Marquette) - Varieties of P-restriction semigroups
15:30-15:55 (Langwith L/N/002)Bassima Afara (Heriot-Watt) - The Rees theorem and its generalizations
16:00-16:30 (outside L/N/002)Coffee and Tea
16:30-17:30 (Langwith L/N/002)Volodymyr Mazorchuk (Uppsala) - Kiselman type semigroups
17:30Close, followed by early dinner.

All talks are in Langwith College, but please note the change of room after the first talk. Here is some practical information on travelling to the University and the map of the Heslington Campus. After the meeting we will be going for an early dinner in the centre of York.

There are limited funds available to support the attendance costs of UK-based graduate students; if you are interested in claiming then please contact Mark Kambites in advance with an estimate of your costs. For all other enquiries about the York meeting please contact Victoria Gould.
