I am quite amazed by the University and the city. Manchester is such a vibrant place and people are so friendly.

How did you decide on your degree choice? What appealed about Manchester?

I have always had an interest in maths and how the subject is applied in the real world. Manchester offers a joint honors degree which provides me the opportunity to further develop my interests in maths and its application. And if you do well on your course, you can get several exemptions which makes it slightly easier to become an actuary.

What were your first impressions of the University and the city?

I am quite amazed by the University and the city. Manchester is such a vibrant place and people are so friendly. I think Manchester is a perfect city for students because everything is so convenient, basically you can walk to anywhere you want. And the facilities of the University are world class.

What are you most enjoying about your course?

My course is a combination of many fields and I have gained a wide range of knowledge. We are taught by world-leading professors and actuaries with much experience in the industry. And there are many active societies, so I am sure you can find one that you are interested. I have gained lots of help from my advisor both in academic work and in personal life.

What skills and attributes do you think you have gained from your course and co-curricular activities so far?

I have gained a better understanding of the actuarial profession and equipped myself with the necessary knowledge and techniques to be  an actuary. The University of Manchester is a reputable university that attracts numerous companies to give presentations and recruitment fairs.  It's extremely useful for me to find out what  the real profession is like and to network. I have talked to a lot of actuaries and found out what specific field I should work in and I have already started to prepare for my career.

How do you think you are benefitting from studying at Manchester?

I have the access to the best resources. I always communicate my ideas with my advisor and I have received excellent support. Manchester has an excellent career service and I attend their events a lot. As a result I have found out a lot about the companies I can apply to and different professional options available to me. I know what I would like to do after I graduate and I am preparing for it now.
