Why did you choose to study this course here at the School of Mathematics? 

I chose my course here mainly because of its high reputation in the world ranking and the city itself. Manchester is a vital city in the UK with lots of opportunities; it is also an open and diverse environment where I can get in touch with a variety of people and distinct cultures. This course suits my needs for my career path very well. 

 

What were you doing before your MSc?

Before my study here, I graduated with Bachelor’s degree in China with major in Mathematics.

 

What are your career plans after graduation?  

I plan to take one or two internships in security companies, and then look for a job related to financial engineering.

 

What do you enjoy most about studying at the School of Mathematics?

The School of Mathematics offers a great environment for us to study. All the facilities here are brand new and we can have seminars and tutorials here very comfortably

 

How much time to do you spend in classes and undertaking independent study? 

I have around 16 hours of classes per week and I spend approximately 20 hours for private study per week. 

 

How did you find the change from Undergraduate to Postgraduate level study?

The study for Postgraduate is more difficult than that for Undergraduate; it requires you to spend more time on independent study. But as long as you try your best to learn, you can do well in the end.

 

What is the best thing about living in Manchester?

It provides a very international environment that helps me to become a more innovative and outgoing person. The city holds such a diverse group of people who are friendly and very welcoming. We have great parks, fabulous shopping malls and Manchester United for those who love football.

 

What advice would you give to those considering studying at the School of Mathematics?

Practice your oral English before you come and enjoy a great life here in Manchester after you come. You won’t regret if you choose to study here.
