The events at schools and colleges allow me to meet some very impressive students and give them their first taste of university life.
What does your job entail?
I work with schools and colleges to give them an insight into life at the School of Mathematics and what a maths degree entails. I organise visits and events to allow teachers and students to visit the School and find out more about what we do. Some of our most popular events include A-level maths revision days, Making Maths at Manchester and the School Open Day.
I am also involved with admissions to the School. Along with the rest of the admissions team I look at applications and make offers for entry to our degree programmes. I help to organise visit days for applicants so they can see the School building and talk to current students, as well as having a short interview.
How long have you been at the School? What keeps you there?
I have worked in the School for four years and have recently taken a full-time position. I enjoy working with bright young people. I also enjoy promoting mathematics as a rewarding degree choice with a multitude of career possibilities.
The events at schools and collages allow me to meet some very impressive students and give them their first taste of university life. They are often surprised by the variety of maths they can learn and careers they can pursue. I enjoy seeing the enthusiasm that many of the students develop during the visits.
