Some Lie algebras appearing all over the place.

Tom Purslow

Frank Adams 1,

In past talks I've bored everyone senseless with maximal subalgebras in exceptional Lie algebras. Unfortunately, I guess, the main focus of this talk will be the exceptional Lie algebras again but showing you that they appear in lots of, what seem to be, unrelated areas of Maths.

This does involve a lot of classifying stuff which I'm aware does not appeal to everyone (#sadtimes) but it does show us that looking at the exceptional Lie algebras is something worth doing. Definitions will be kept to a minimum so hopefully it'll be reasonably easy to follow.
