Representations of elementary abelian p-groups

Frank Adams 1,

In modular representation theory it is often important to be able decide when a given module M is projective. One useful tool is Dade's lemma which I will introduce with some examples. Using this lemma as motivation I will introduce the definition of the rank variety of a module, due to Jon Carlson. If I have time I will show how the dimension of this variety controls to rate of growth of the dimensions of the free modules in a resolution of M.
