Most of the time, sensible mathematicians work in base 10. On occasion slightly less sensible mathematicians might work in base 2, or some other integer base. This talk is about what happens when crazy mathematicians like myself decide to use a non-integer base. Does this work? Is it just like an integer base or do strange things happen? I will use dynamical systems to explore what happens in a non-integer base, and finish with a brief explanation of my research: poking holes in dynamical systems.
