A local to global principle for densities over global fields

In this talk we first provide an introduction to a local to global method for computing densities of subsets of Z^n (Poonen, Stoll). With a suitable definition of density, we can extend the method to work over a global function field F, provided that Z is replaced with a non-trivial integrally closed subring of F. We will use these tools to answer a question by Heyman and Shparlinski and to give quicker proofs of existing results.
