Products of CW complexes - the full story

CW complexes are the topological spaces of choice in algebraic topology.  However, it has long been known that the product of two CW complexes need not be a CW complex, and previous characterisations of when the product is a CW complex have relied on set-theoretic assumptions like the continuum hypothesis.  I will present a complete characterisation of when the product of CW complexes is a CW complex, valid in any model of set theory.  Moreover the requisite knowledge of set theory is sufficiently minimal that I will present it all within the talk.
