Inverse Problems and Control for Lung Dynamics

Henry Tregidgo (The University of Manchester)

ATB Frank Adams 1,

Mechanical ventilation is a life saving intervention for many respiratory intensive care patients, but increased stress on lung tissue can cause ventilator induced lung injury. Lung protective ventilation schemes can help mitigate this risk and benefit from increased use of bedside monitoring.

In this talk I will explain some of the inverse problems involved in improving bedside monitoring, how the engineering concept of control theory may be applied and indeed what an inverse problem even looks like.
