Solution of the Navier-Stokes and related equations using spectral methods

The project aims to develop a stable method for the solutions of Navier-Stokes and related equations in primitive variables using hybird high-order finite differences and Chebyshev collocation methods. The numerical technique have been used successfully to solve the equations in different formulation (stream function-vorticity; see Boppana & Gajjar, Num. Methods Fluids 2009) but not in primitive variables. The approach will lead to a matrix that has to be stabilized, and the project will examine the efficiency for both two and three dimensions.
