Welcoming Professor Oliver Jensen as the new Head of School
Many thanks for all the hard work from Peter and welcome Oliver as the new Head of School
On Friday 27th July, the School of Mathematics formally welcomed one of our own, Professor Oliver Jensen, as the new Head of School to the School of Mathematics. We also expressed our appreciation and thanks to Professor Peter Duck, who is stepping down after 10 successful years as the Head of School to embark on a sabbatical during which he will visit Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Mauritius.
A message from Oliver:
''I am honoured to be starting as Head of the School of Mathematics. I joined the School in 2012, as Sir Horace Lamb Professor. Many students and recent alumni will know me from the first-year Calculus & Vectors course that I taught over the past 6 years. My research is in applied mathematics, primarily relating to mechanics and transport problems in biology and medicine. I look forward to continuing my teaching and research alongside my new responsibilities. On behalf of all the staff in the School, I would like to express our sincere thanks to Peter Duck, who is stepping down as Head of School for a very well deserved sabbatical. Over the past decade Peter has ensured the continuing success of the School as an outstanding centre of teaching, learning and research in mathematics. I look forward to working with all our students and staff to maintain the strong tradition of excellence in mathematics at the University of Manchester.''
