PhD Student is Awarded Prestigious Internship
We are pleased to announce that Maria Thorpe, currently studying for a PhD in applied mathematics, has been awarded one of the highly-sought-after 3 month internships with EPSRC at the Parliamentary Offices of Science and Technology (POST). As most MPs and Peers do not have a background in science or technology they look to others for specialist advice and information. POST provides such a service, giving balanced and independent analyses of science and technology based issues of relevance to parliament.
The secondment was open to all EPSRC funded PhD students and Maria had to undergo a rigorous selection process. After submitting a two-page briefing on a topic of interest to parliament and interviews at POST in Westminster applicants were narrowed down and four students, including Maria, were eventually chosen.
The School would like to congratulate Maria on being awarded this prestigious internship.
