Members of the Numerical Analysis Group made a strong contribution to the SIAM Conference on Applied Linear Algebra held in Atlanta, USA, in the last week of October.  This triennial conference is one of the two main conferences in the subject area.

Presentations were given by Professors Françoise Tisseur and Nick Higham, as well as postdoctoral researchers Mary Aprahamian, James Hook, Javier Perez, Sam Relton, PhD students Massimiliano Fasi and Pranjal Prasad, recently departed postdoctoral researchers Edvin Deadman (now at NAG) and Vanni Noferini (now at the University of Essex), and current long-term Manchester visitors Tomas Gergelits and Peter Kandolf.

Nick Higham and Natasa Strabic won a Best Poster Prize for their poster "Anderson Acceleration of the Alternating Projections Method for Computing the Nearest Correlation Matrix".

The group organized two minisymposia at the meeting, on "Recent Advances in Matrix Functions" and "Matrix Scaling---Theory and Algorithms", with a total of 12 speakers.

Françoise Tisseur also served as member of the organizing committee.

The travel of Pranjal Prasad was supported by a SIAM Student Travel Award.
