New Starter Neil Walton
Welcoming Neil Walton as a Senior Lecturer in Actuarial Science
Neil Walton has recently taken up a senior lectureship in Actuarial Science in January 2016. Before moving to Manchester, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics, University of Amsterdam. Neil completed his undergraduate, Masters degree and PhD at The University of Cambridge.
Hi Neil, welcome to the School of Mathematics and Manchester! How are you finding the role so far?
It's going great, thanks. I'm really looking forward to starting work: chatting with people and proving theorems.
Sounds good! What are your main mathematical areas of interest?
I particularly enjoy applied probability, optimisation and congestion.
You used to work in Amsterdam prior to starting this post, which is quite different to Manchester as a city. What is your favourite thing about the city so far?
It's hard to say, really. I'll admit I haven't actually seen much of it yet, but I've been really impressed by The University of Manchester campus.
We hope you get some time to explore the city. What will you be doing when you get some free time?
I really enjoy running, albeit not very fast. I also like playing squash and relaxing with history podcasts.
We wish Neil the very best of luck in his new role. If you need to contact Neil, you can do so here.
