"Feeding the Four Hundred" by Dr John Moriarty

Dr John Moriarty, senior lecturer in probability and statistics.

In a recent article John Moriarty explains how he overcame the very daunting task - "have you ever felt in need of a miracle" - of teaching the Mathematics course, Probability I, which has the largest cohort of Maths students.  By introducing a weekly online quiz and an anonymous Discussion Board there have been benefits to both the lecturer (in terms of gaining feedback) and the students (those less inclined to participate in lectures due to "shyness" or language anxieties feel more safe contributing via an online Discussion Board).
