Problem 3

Five authors, J.P. Pratman, Lewis Scorcher, Noel Garman, Claire Cassandric and Stephanie Mower wrote five series of books: 'The Vampire Saga', 'Games of Bones', 'The Dark Instruments', 'Circleworld' and 'Fabled Realms'. Each series contained either 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 books. All the books are either 200, 300, 400, 500 or 600 pages long.

Using the clues below, work out which author wrote which series of books, how many books were in each series, and how many pages each book contained.

  1. Each series was written by a different author; only one author wrote each series. The books in each series have the same number of pages; no two series have the same number of pages in each book nor the same number of books in them.
  2. The author who wrote 500-page books was either the author of a 3-book series or wrote 'Fabled Realms'
  3. The author who wrote a 5-book series didn't write books that were exactly 600 pages long.
  4. The author of 'Circleworld' was either Claire Cassandric or Stephanie Mower.
  5. Of the author who wrote 300-page books and the author of 'The Vampire Saga', one was Lewis Scorcher and the other wrote a 2-book series.
  6. Of the author who wrote 500-page books and the author of 'The Vampire Saga', one was Stephanie Mower and the other wrote a 2-book series.
  7. The author of 200-page books, the author of 'Circleworld' and Stephanie Mower are all different people.
  8. The author of 500-page books wrote a series containing three more books than the author of 'Games of Bones'.
  9. Noel Garman wrote books longer than 200 pages, but he did not write a 5-volume series.
  10. Neither Noel Garman nor the author of the 3-book series wrote 'The Vampire Saga'.

What is the total number of pages in all five series of books? (If you think that there are 1,200 pages in total then you should enter 1200.)
