1952 Born in Rathenow/Havel (East Germany).
1959-1971 Schooling in Berlin and Halle.
1971-1979 Undergraduate education and postgraduate work (Supervisor: Professor A.L. Shmel'kin) at Moscow State University: MA 1976, PhD 1979.
1979-1990 Karl-Weierstraß-Institut für Mathematik, Berlin. Dr.sc. from University of Rostock 1987 .
1990-2004 UMIST, Department of Mathematics.
