Mathematica® by Wolfram Research, is one of the largest single application programs ever developed to work with symbolic and numerical mathematics. Currently, there are two versions being used with Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations with Mathematica. Versions 2.2 and 3.0 are installed on the NeXT Workstations at the University of Maryland and at the University of Houston - Clear Lake and they have been used extensively with the main package ODE.m, which accompanies this book on CD-ROM. Version 3.0 is the first upgrade in 5 years and is set to be a major advancement in Mathematica technology. Mathematica currently runs on over twenty operating systems including Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and NEXTSTEP to name just a few. Student copies of both version 2.2 and 3.0 are now available through many campus bookstores. You may also visit the world wide web site of Wolfram Research by clicking http://www.wolfram.com. More information may be found there.

This CD-ROM and its corresponding web site of new files and bug fixes located at http://math.cl.uh.edu/ode/ode.html contain several hundred megabytes of Mathematica notebooks and packages and related files. The notebooks can contain text, Mathematica input and output, graphics, animations, and sound. To fully utilize this resource, you must have Mathematica running on your computer. However, you only need MathReader, a free program from Wolfram Research, to view the various notebooks and play the Mathematica movies and sounds. You may download MathReader Version 2.2 by clicking on http://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/mathreader.html and following the directions. MathReader Version 3.0 should be available by Summer, 1997.
