Parallel Numerical Algorithms

by T. L. Freeman and Chris Phillips , Prentice Hall, 1992.

Parallel Numerical Algorithms investigates a wide range of practical numerical methods and discusses their implementation on today's parallel architectures. The book begins with a discussion of hardware and software aspects of parallel computers, covering both shared and local memory multiprocessors. Program development using extensions to the Fortran 77 standard is highlighted. Parallel algorithms are developed from tried and tested standard sequential numerical methods, but attention is also given to new methods which have been designed with parallelism in mind. Early emphasis is on linear algebra, but numerical integration, root-finding, optimisation, fast Fourier transforms, and ordinary and differential equations are also considered in detail. The book will be of interest to students and professionals in the areas of computing science, mathematics and engineering.
