The Quadrantid Shower 2009

Characteristics of the shower

The Quadrantid shower is active during the first 6 days of the year. However, it has a short active maximum. Twleve hours after maximum, rates can be down to a quarter of the value at maximum. The radiant, although circumpolar from the whole of UK tends to be low in the evening hours and only gains respectable altitude in the hours after midnight. The maximum can be elusive to see but is certainly very rewarding.

Circumstances for 2009

With a first quarter Moon on January 4th, the sky will be Moonless in the post-midnight hours when the radiant is highest.
