The Lyrid Shower 2009

Arrow and dot show extreme positions of radiant (beginning and end of shower period) and also the position of the radiant at the time of maximum.

Characteristics of the shower

The Lyrid shower comes at a time of the year when there are few other meteor showers. The rates are not particularly high but the radiant is well placed by midnight. Higher activity is not unknown e.g. 1982.

Circumstances for 2009

The moon is new on April 25th so this shower can be observed without substantial lunar interference.
