Undergraduate Overseas Scholarships

School funded Scholarships for International Students

For 2012 entry the School of Mathematics is offering three types of Scholarship for international students, who can therefore receive £1500 or £3000 for each year of their studies in the School of Mathematics.

 International Mathematics Scholarship

The School has a large number of these International Mathematics Scholarships, which are worth £1,500 per year of study. All new international students who satisfy the mathematical component of their entrance requirement will be awarded such a scholarship. The amount of the scholarship is paid for each year of your undergraduate degree, whether that is three or four years, and takes the form of a scholarship against the tuition fees.

In addition to the Scholarships just mentioned, the School of Mathematics will award up to ten prestigious Excellence Scholarships of which five are International Mathematical Excellence Scholarships and five are International Actuarial Science Excellence Scholarships. These competitive awards are for the successful international applicants who have demonstrated the highest overall academic excellence. The awards are worth £1500 per year of study on top of the International Mathematics Scholarship (making a total award of £3,000 per year) and are subject to maintaining an upper second-class Honours standard.

International Actuarial Science Excellence Scholarship

These awards are for international students on the BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science and Mathematics degree (UCAS code NG31). Three of the awards are specifically for applicants from Africa, China and South East Asia and two more will be open to any international student.

International Mathematical Excellence Scholarship

These awards are for international students admitted by the School of Mathematics onto any undergraduate degree except the Actuarial Science and Mathematics programme. Five of these awards are specifically for applicants from Africa, China, India, Pakistan and Malaysia, and five more will be open to any international student.

Eligibility and Selection

All international students will be considered automatically for these Scholarships, and need not apply for them. We will notify prospective students of their eligibility for the International Mathematics Scholarship as soon as we know whether they satisfy the entrance requirements. Since the Mathematical Excellence Scholarships and International Actuarial Science Merit Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis, we do not expect to know who the recipients are until the beginning of the academic year.

At the end of each year, all our students must perform satisfactorily in examinations in order to progress to the following year. Holders of an International Mathematics Scholarship will continue to receive the Scholarship provided they progress satisfactorily to the next year. Recipients of an International  Mathematical Excellence Scholarship or an International Actuarial Science Merit Scholarship will need to maintain an upper second-class Honours standard in order to continue receiving the scholarship.
