Interviewer Training programme

Business Job Description - Finance Job Description - Technical Job Description - Application Form (Word) - Application Form (PDF)

Thinking about applying for internships?
Worried about application forms?
Need to practise your interviewing skills?
Want to win £100 in Amazon vouchers?

If so, our new peer-assisted programme designed to appraise and improve upon your current skills is for you!

All first year mathematics students are invited to apply for one of a number of mock intern posts. These applications will then be appraised and short-listed by second and third year students, who have recently undergone a series of interviewer training sessions. A number of applicants will then be invited to attend a mock interview, and one winning candidate will be chosen for each post.

To ensure consistency across all applications, we have used 3 real internship advertisements from CSC, one of the world’s largest Information Technology Services providers. Whilst you may not wish to work in this specific sector, the process of applying for one of these roles will give you a realistic insight into some of the processes used by the major employers of graduates and interns.

This programme offers a great opportunity for all first year students of the School to assess their current application and interviewing skills, and to learn more about some of the services available within the University to improve upon these skills.

We would strongly encourage all first year students to participate in this programme, by applying for one of the attached posts. All applications should be returned to the reception of the Alan Turing Building no later than 5pm on Friday 17th February 2012. The schedule for the remainder of the programme is as follows:

17th February 2012           Deadline for completed applications to be submitted to the reception of Alan Turing.
29th February 2012           Interviews of short-listed candidates to take place.
14th March 2012              Awards session for all interviewees, where the winning candidates will be announced.

Applicants who are successful in making it to the interview stage will be informed by the 27th February at 5pm. Applicants who have not heard anything by this time should assume they were unsuccessful on this occasion. However, all unsuccessful applicants will be invited to a feedback session to discuss their applications, the date for which is to be confirmed.

The job specifications for each post, and the application form, are attached and students may apply for one post only.

Please also note that assistance in the completion of application forms, designing CVs, and much more, can be obtained from the University’s Careers and Employability Division - http://www.careers.manchester.ac.uk/students/applicationsinterviews/

All students successfully short-listed for interview will receive a £20 Amazon voucher and the winning candidate for each of the three posts will receive £100.

Please contact Sebastian.rees@manchester.ac.uk with any further questions.

This programme is supported by IBM, CSC, PwC, Teach First and Deloitte.
