Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry

This note defines virtual Betti numbers constructed from algebraically constructible homology, after the work of McCrory and Parusinski. These numbers are not always surely defined because we do not know in general whether the dimension of the algebraically constructible homology is finite, but the paper contains some results in this direction.
