General entrance requirements

Note that the requirements listed here are generic requirements. For the exact entrance requirements, which may be subject to programme-dependent restrictions, please refer to the webpage of the specific programme of interest or view country specific requirements here.

All applicants for postgraduate programmes should have a very good command of written and spoken English. Students whose first language is not English require a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in each other component or equivalent. For the MSc in Mathematical Finance students must have a score of at least 6.5 in the IELTS with 6.5 in writing and 5.5 in each other component or equivalent. Note that for admission to the programmes, documentary evidence of previous studies, and where appropriate, proof of adequate command of English are required. Students should normally have a minimum of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent prior to application.

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) - On November 1st 2007, the UK government introduced ATAS. Having an ATAS clearance certificate will be a mandatory requirement for some postgraduate students who need an Entry Clearance to study in the UK. MSc/Diploma

The entrance requirements to the programmes are normally a good honours degree in mathematics, computer science, or a mathematically related discipline, or an equivalent overseas qualification in a mathematical subject.

PhD/MPhil

Applicants would usually be expected to have a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree (or an equivalent overseas qualification) in a mathematical subject. In some research areas a background in physics, engineering or computer science is also acceptable.
