Non-negative versus positive scalar curvature

Prof. David Wraith (Maynooth University )

Frank Adams Room 1,

Understanding the difference between non-negative and positive curvature on manifolds is a subtle and often difficult problem. In this talk we will focus on the scalar curvature, the weakest commonly used notion of curvature. This is closely related to the Dirac operator. We will present a new result about the eigenvalues of this operator, and explore its implications for the question of understanding the difference between non-negative and positive scalar curvature.
