About mathematics at Manchester

For more than a century, Manchester has been at the forefront of mathematics. Today we continue the great work of the past.

A wealth of talent

We have more than 1,000 undergraduates, 150 postgraduates and 90 academic staff members in our Department.

The Department of Mathematics at Manchester is one of the largest mathematics Departments in the UK. We’re home to some of the brightest undergraduate, postgraduate and academic mathematicians - and we have the facilities to match.

We’re housed in the purpose-built Alan Turing Building, which provides a strong sense of community while honouring one of the great maths minds of our history.

Find out why we’re proud of our heritage and why Manchester is still one of the best places in the UK to study the subject of mathematics.
